Buy Natural Gas Water Heater

The Southern Connecticut Gas Company (SCG) is currently experiencing a strong demand for the residential energy efficiency programs leading to program budgets being severely constrained. Due to the increase in program activity, at the close of business on June 16, 2022, SCG will no longer offer incentives for natural gas boilers, furnaces and water heaters sold in SCG territory. Effective June 17, 2022, the instant discount currently offered upstream by distributors will no longer be offered to customers in the SCG territory.

The complete A. O. Smith line of natural gas and liquid propane tank water heaters consists of over 150 different models. From high-efficiency ENERGY STAR certified water heaters to economical standard efficiency gas water heaters, A. O. Smith has the gas tank water heater to fit your needs

A. O. Smith gas water heaters heat water by burning either natural gas or LP (liquid propane). All models have a thermostat/gas control to set the desired temperature. When a hot water fixture is opened, hot water flows out of the tank and through hot water lines in the home and the tank is refilled with cold water. The thermostat monitors the water temperature and initiates reheating when needed. Standard gas models have a standing pilot light, and when the thermostat calls for operation gas flows to the burner where it is lit by the pilot light. High-efficiency models utilize an electronic gas valve and use a spark or hot surface ignitor so a standing pilot is not required. Standard gas models have a standing pilot light, and when the thermostat calls for operation gas flows to the burner where it is lit by the pilot light. When the desired water temperature is reached in the tank, the main gas valve shuts off and the heating process stops.

All A. O. Smith gas tank water heaters feature innovative technology to improve durability. Many tanks are lined with a glass coating to protect the steel tank from the corrosive effects of water. These tanks incorporate an anode rod that protects and neutralizes harmful elements from damaging the glass lining and steel tank. The inclusion of a temperature and pressure relief valve acts as a safety device to detect and relieve internal temperature or pressure if the tank exceeds specified limits. These components assist in providing high-quality and reliable operation.

Hybrid heat pump water heaters are the most efficient tank heater, but they are also the most expensive. These units use heat from surrounding air to generate hot water using a compressor and coils. Hybrid heat pump water heaters are relatively large and not ideal for smaller spaces, as they need seven feet of clearance. On average, these units cost around $1,200 to $3,500 for installation and materials.

While you could choose to replace a water heater as one of your home improvement projects, the intense labor and comprehensive knowledge of installing a system makes water heater repairs and replacement a job better suited for a plumber.

After installation, it takes a gas heater around 40 minutes to fully heat up while an electric heater can take an hour or longer. The time it takes for the heater to start providing your home with hot water also depends on the size and type of water heater.

The runtime of a water heater depends on the size, model, and fuel source. Typically a tankless water heater runs around an hour a day, while a tank water heater may run four hours or more. If you notice that your water heater is running more than usual, call a certified plumber to inspect your heater for any problems.

Tankless water heaters, also known as demand-type or instantaneous water heaters, provide hot water only as it is needed. They don't produce the standby energy losses associated with storage water heaters, which can save money. Here you'll find basic information about how they work, whether a tankless water heater might be right for your home, and what criteria to use when sele
