Thenmerku Paruvakatru (தன்மற்க பரவக்கற்ற) is a 2010 Tamil romantic drama film directed by Seenu Ramasamy and starring Vijay Sethupathi, Vasundhra Chiyertra and Saranya Ponvannan. The film won three National Film Awards, including the Best Feature Film in Tamil, Best Actress for Saranya Ponvannan and Best Lyrics for Vairamuthu. The film was also remade in Kannada as Kwatle Sathisa in 2014.
Plot
The film is set in the backdrop of Theni, a rural town in Tamil Nadu. Murugaiyan (Vijay Sethupathi) is a goatherd who lives with his widowed mother Veerayi (Saranya Ponvannan). Veerayi is very possessive of her son and does not want him to get married. She also has a bitter past, as her husband was killed by a gang of thieves led by Pechi's father. Pechi (Vasundhra Chiyertra) is a young girl who belongs to a family of goat thieves. She falls in love with Murugaiyan and tries to win his heart. However, Veerayi opposes their relationship and arranges a marriage for Murugaiyan with another girl. Murugaiyan refuses to marry anyone else and runs away with Pechi. This leads to a clash between the two families and a tragic outcome.

Production
The film was produced by Shibu Issac under the banner of Shibu Thameens Films. The director Seenu Ramasamy had previously worked with Vijay Sethupathi in his debut film Thenmerku Paruvakaatru, which was also produced by Shibu Issac. The film was shot in various locations in Theni district, such as Cumbum, Bodinayakanur, Periyakulam and Kodaikanal. The cinematography was done by Chezhiyan and the editing by Mu. Kasi Viswanathan. The music was composed by N.R. Raghunanthan and the lyrics were written by Vairamuthu.
Release and reception
The film was released on 24 December 2010 and received positive reviews from critics and audiences. The film was praised for its realistic portrayal of rural life, its performances, its music and its direction. The film was also a commercial success, grossing over 10 crore at the box office. The film won three National Film Awards at the 58th National Film Awards ceremony held in 2011. Saranya Ponvannan won the Best Actress award for her role as Veerayi, Vairamuthu won the Best Lyrics award for the song "Kallikkaattil Pirantha Thaye" and the film won the Best Feature Film in Tamil award.
